Officially called the CBOE Volatility Index and listed under the ticker symbol VIX, investors and analysts sometimes refer to it by its unofficial nickname: the fear index. When the fear increases the price of Bitcoin goes down, and other way around, the VIX is returning to low levels, means that investors are confident. The correlation with stock market is pretty similar.
