As part of my self improvement program, I was listening to Anthony Robbins while on my way to do grocery shopping earlier. One of his key message in the audio was
Standards and Rituals
Standards - Michael Phelps train 3x as hard compared to the other Olympic swimmer. If other is training once a day, he will triple it. He learns to let go of limiting beliefs that the body might become fatigue from over training, etc. He raised his own standards. It is no longer about the winning the Olympic Gold.
Having a high standard is not enough. It has to be back up by rituals or habits. And we know we are all creatures of habits. Successful people have successful habits that we can model after them.
My personal experience :
A few months ago, I was listening to another favourite author of mine, Bob Procter and in one of his audio , he mentioned about getting your annual income to be your monthly income. I thought he was crazy when I first heard that.
Then, I thought, there is no harm in trying that. So, I raised my own standard of turning my monthly trading goal to become my weekly goal and then over time turning the weekly goal to daily goal. You get the idea, right ?
For example, you could say, have a monthly trading goal of achieving 3000 USD. To make that into your weekly goal means you have to have that number within 5 working days (assume you trade 5 days) and that gives you 600 per day. With that in mind, your trading strategy change.
Once your raised this standard of turning monthly to weekly, your whole persona changes. Your motivation is on a different level. Of course, the stress comes along with it. But I take that as a form of good stress rather than negative ones. I begin to scout the market for trading opportunities, study the chart more carefully, etc.
I ensure I stick to my plan , allowing profits to run further and not closed prematurely for fear of retracement. I work my mental mind to stay focused, positive (through silent meditation , prayers and listening to audios) and maintain my ritual.
Here, in my ritual, I ensure my meals are light so that I do not trade on a heavy lunch. I go for my daily exercise , using that to shape my body and mind. While running and/or swimming, I go through the mistakes I made during the day and allow it to dissipate from my system. I learn to let it go in a healthy manner.
More importantly, I do not force trade to achieve my financial goal. Instead, I have this positive affirmation repeated to myself several times a day, reciting the 3000 figures in my mind. I print out my past profits and put in front of me to constantly remind myself I have achieved it and will do it again.
Each time, the mind got distracted, I push myself to come back to the ritual. Like a wild animal, it refused to be tamed (the mind) and it is even more important that we learn to manage it properly.
Whenever I get into the negative mindset, I force myself to replace it with 2-3 or even more positive ones, not generic but actual results in the past to reconnect the mental wire. Like a broken record, I ensure the mind stay as positive and as focused towards the 3000 goal within a week as possible. I track it down in writing, I see it on my laptop and mobile phone. When I am out, I immersed myself in the positive vibes and allow the emotions to run high on me.
I totally allow the "it has been done" feeling to come over me and each time the senses (sight and hearing) refuse to believe and the current circumstances become obstacles, I continue to hold faith in my achieving my trading goals.
Most importantly, my prayers through God has been the most impact on me. I ask for peace and joy and not anger or stress in achieving this goal. First week, I missed by a big margin. A little discouraged but I kept the faith. 2nd week got closer but still not reaching the standard. On the 5th week, I did it. I print out the results , totally convinced that what Bob said was true.
Today, I challenge you not to be complacent. Raise your own standard. Not too high that it stresses you out but slightly above your usual standard. That push is necessary to keep your fire burning going. And keep to your rituals - physical, mental and spiritual. Get into it, make it consistent and I will be happy to hear your success stories soon.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11.24
I leave you with my favourite verse above and may God blessing be with you abundantly.
