OpenAI, Oracle Bring Stargate AI Expansion To Michigan

OpenAI and Oracle ORCL are looking to expand their whopping AI infrastructure project, Stargate, to Michigan which marks another key milestone in their race to power the next wave of AI.

The new campus, thats being build by Related Digital, will break ground early next year and will look to employ a more eco-friendly closed-loop cooling system in slashing water consumption. DTE Energy DTE will supply power using the existing transmission capacity, while ensuring the project's efficiency and sustainable.

This buildout gives us a real chance to reindustrialize the country and it should happen in places like Michigan, OpenAI said, calling the expansion a win for both AI progress and local economies. The company expects the project to bring jobs, investment, and opportunities tied to the fast-growing AI sector.

The Michigan hub is the seventh Stargate site in the U.S., joining locations in Texas and elsewhere. Once fully built, Stargate will deliver over 8 gigawatts of data center capacity and attract over $450 billion in investment over the next three years a scale which underscores just how swiftly the AI era is expanding.
